PostSubject: A Requium for Madness   Sun Jun 24, 2012 5:31 am

My colegues and I have been working on a syrum to break the barriers holding back the human mind for three years now. It surprises me how far we have gotten in this short time. The mortality rate has fallen greatly, with only 2.37% of subjects finding their way to the autopsy table. But I digress, I must record our progress as of yet.

Subject 491 shows some improvement, but has yet to understand anything beyond simple phase jump calculations. His bodily functions continue to operate at normal levels. However, an unusual mass has formed on his left pectoral muscle.

Subject 483 is not so fortunate. Her mental functions have been decreasing exponentialy for three weeks now. She currently has mental functions equivelent to that of a seven-year-old. Her phisical health has also greatly declined. Her heart funtions at a rate that barely keeps her alive. Her kidneys are failing, along with her liver. We don't expect her to make it to the morning.

I empithise with whoever gets the misfortune of going to Artimus colony to deliver the news to her family. We have the cover for her death ready. It is to be said that she died of an unknown disease contracted while exploring Sector 47. She has told no one that she has been participating in these experiments.

Well, I'll have to continue recording recent results at a later time, as it has reached curfue here. Bah, why did I have to work in this infernal ship? They could have sent us to a center on the colonies or back at home, but instead they pack us like sardines out in space. Oh well, what's done is done, and I must get into my bunk now.

As we had expected, subject 483 died at 03:00 of the 10th of March. At 04:30 we had her corpse on the autopsy table. There where no signs of internal damage. It apears her body simply shut down.

Lorana was selected to go with the corpse to Bjarmaland. What remains of 483's family lives there as wealthy merchants. From what Lorana tells me, the subject's family had started their buisness with the funds we had given to her.

I wonder what it must be like to have a family to care for. Having lived untill the age of 18 as an orphin, I never felt what it was like to be in a family. I had few friends, and those I did have where quickly adopted. All the familys I meet with always left in a hurry. I imagine something about me scared them. However, what that was, I don't know.

Ah, it has reached time to occupy my bunk yet again. While I agree the rest is necasary, I dispise the fact that I must be restricted to the times they plan for us. Why must I sleep when there is so much work to be done? Hmph, well, I must get to my bunk before these military dogs put me out for me.

End entry.

Subject 491 continues to show improvement. His inteligence rating has increased 34 percent. His vitals continue to operate at normal levels. However, his phisical streangth has began to rapidly increase We extracted the mass from his body.

Analysis of the mass shows it to be made up of a compound that isn't recorded in any databank. We have decided to call this compound Shadeite. It is a black metal that is incredibly dense. It has a hardness rating that surpasses diamond. The strangest thing we have found about it though, is that it is rappidly self-replicating. In the past three days, we have gone from having only 135 miligrams to almost a full kilogram.

We have commensed recruiting new test subjects. We have decided to slightly lower the pay to the would-be test subjects. The company may lose its contract with the goverment soon, according to the hearsay. It is said that there hasn't been enough progress in other projects that are supported by the contract, so our program will have to suffer as well. Damned system, there's always another hole in it each time you turn your head.

Curfue again, Dr. Jason Ulfricson signing out.

With how busy I have been, I find it amazing there has even been a few minutes for me to record these entries. During the last four days, my team and I have been taking base vitals and base intelligence data for the new test subjects. We received twenty of them, yet another surprise to me.

I wonder just how many come here with a death wish and how many others because they or their family needed money. Four of them are ex-soldiers, so I suspect they are here for the former, using "the good of mankind" as an excuse. I dispise those types of people, who mask their selfishness with selflessness. It's a mask many I have known wore.

My own brother, damn him, pushed me out of the way of a falling construction beam and was crushed, smiling at me all the while. For years he had been depressed, an after effect of drinking away the sad memory of his once fiancé's death.

Damn it, the klaxon!

Last night... last night subject 491 awoke screaming and... he attacked the researchers working the night shift... They had sedated him, no one had been seriously injured... but... half an hour later... he... the shadeite in his body... it reacted with the acid in his stomach and.. there was a violent reaction... the entire reaserch section was destroyed... Lorana... Lorana was... she was in the resulting explosion... she had gotten back from escorting the body at mid-day... she wanted to take the late shift to... to catch up on recent happenings... DAMNIT! Why?! Why did she have to be there then?! I... I just can't keep talking about this now... the mass service for those that died... it shall be heald tomarrow... I... I think... no, I MUST go... for her...

Ulfricson signing out...
